Airplanes

We live a few minutes north of the DFW Airport and frequently hear the roar of airplanes as they take-off and land.  Whether we are inside the house or outside, when Connor hears an airplane, he almost always points to the sky and says "whoa!"  I recently discovered Founder's Plaza (thanks Mandy!), which is an area on the north side of the airport that is developed to let people watch planes take-off and land.  It has picnic tables, telescopes and a grassy area that is perfect for kids to run around.  Last Saturday was beautiful outside, so we decided to pack a lunch and take Connor out to see the planes up close.  I was a little concerned that it was going to be too scary, but it was actually just loud enough to really feel the power, but not overwhelm.  I'm guessing that the planes were landing about 500 yards in front of us.  The take-off strip was a little farther away, but we could still get a good view of the planes taking off as well and it's probably a good thing they were farther away because the large planes revving up their engines was really powerful.  We were only there a couple of minutes before the first plane arrived, right in front of us.  We did get a "whoa" from Connor, but then he quickly wanted to get down and run around.  There was so much to see and he decided to pick a few flowers and give them to a little girl. 

After she left, we all sat down on a blanket to have a picnic.  Connor ate a few bites, but then wanted to get up again and go play with a little boy.  We all had a great time watching the planes and just enjoying the beautiful November Texas weather.  If you haven't been to Founder's Plaza, I highly recommend it with or without kids.  It makes for a great, leisurely afternoon...and it's FREE.  :)  http://www.dfwairport.com/visitor/index.php?ctnid=28578
