Updates

It’s been a while since we’ve done much of an update. Both Brad and I have been extremely busy with work and haven’t had much time to blog. But we’ve definitely been enjoying our time with Connor…also known as Little Buddy, Punkin’, Precious, Sweetie, Boy, Baby Boy and Little Guy. (bet you could guess which ones I use and which ones Brad uses.)


Connor is full of energy and VERY talkative these days. He has mastered getting both feet off of the ground at the same time in a hop and he loves to dance. Whether he is sitting, standing or even laying down will start dancing at the slightest hint of a tune. He knows lots of words now and is pretty good at repeating things, but the majority of his chatter is still in his own language. He will often go into these “speeches” where he’s going on and on while waving his hands and running around. Many of these are directed at either Uber (the cat) or Elmo (the toy). He LOVES Uber these days. He relentlessly follows him around, lays on him, hugs him and brings toys to him. He puts pillows, books, small toys and anything else he can find on top of Uber and fortunately, Uber is very tolerant.

It’s been rainy quite a bit over the past few weeks, so when it’s not nice enough outside to go to the park we need lots of indoor activities. We still do swim lessons and Soccer Tots, but our newest and biggest toy (maybe even bigger than the outdoor playset) is a ball pit. We have had a couple of ball pits, one of which Connor ripped apart while rolling around in it and the other one was too shallow and we were constantly putting all 250 balls back in. The new ball pit is like a house with walls that are 7 feet long and at over 3 feet tall. It has a slide, tic-tac-toe, ball-dropper, window and a basketball goal. We could easily have a family dinner inside the ball “house”. In fact, he takes everything he can find inside the house, so we now know where to look for missing items (like the remote from the other room!). I should have known that with anything this big, Connor is going to find a way to scare me. With this, he found many ways within the first few minutes. Instead of sliding down the inflatable slide, he chooses to stand at the top of it and do a belly flop. There are balls (although the 250 we had don’t begin to cover the floor of the pit) and the floor is inflated to soften the fall, but it’s still a good 18 – 24 inch drop. The slide is being removed for a little while. J He also likes to stand in the window (probably 12 inches up) and do belly flops from there too. After mastering those “tricks”, he discovered that he could grab the top of the wall, pick his feet up, arch his back and fall backwards onto his back. Every time he does it, he has a stunned look on his face as in “hmm, that might have hurt!”, then he smiles and gets up to do it again. I know these are just the beginning of many activities that will make me cringe. He is ALL boy!

While he has his picky moments, Connor is still a pretty good eater. The only thing he consistently declines is a hamburger, but he definitely has his favorites. Right now, we call grapes and raisins “happy foods”. They are reliable sources to satisfy hunger between meals and bring him joy, so we keep them on hand at all times. He also loves watermelon and bananas, but they are a little more difficult to manage outside of the house. He is pretty handy with a napkin or towel. He wipes his face, his hands and even his plate or tray. Unfortunately, that usually means that food goes everywhere, but at least he's trying.
