Tubes

The last couple of ear infections that Connor has had, Dr. Coco said that if they return within a couple of weeks we will discuss tubes. We were relieved at his 9-month check-up that the ear infection he had the week before had cleared up well and as of his 10-month birthday he seemed to still be clear...until Wednesday night. Around 6:30, Connor had been trying to sleep on Daddy's chest like he does many evenings after a rowdy day at daycare. He just couldn't get comfortable so while Brad changed his diaper I checked his temperature and it was 103.9, which was the highest we had ever seen it. He was also breathing very rapidly so we took him to the emergency care clinic for children. We were surprised to find out that he had ear infections in both ears because he had been sleeping pretty well (it's all relative!) the past few nights, had not been fussy and wasn't playing with his ears like he usually did when he had ear infections. He also had infection on his throat, but the strep test was negative. Thursday morning we called Dr. Coco to find out if he wanted to see him and he said there was no need, but to go ahead and schedule an appointment with the ENT specialist to discuss tubes. We have been dreading this, but hate for Connor to be in pain every month or two, so hopefully the tubes will help him feel better. We have to wait until he's done with antibiotics to meet with the ENT, so we'll go on December 2nd. At that time we will determine when to do the surgery. I've heard really good things about this doctor from a mommy in Connor's playgroup, so that will ease our minds a little bit. More updates to come...
